Lake Tyers State Park cultural mapping project
Representatives from the Gunaikurnai joint management partners have been working together on a cultural mapping project in the Lake Tyers State Park, with help from a consultant archaeologist.
Joint Management rangers and Parks Victoria staff this week attended final site inspections for the project, and a series of the archaeological surveys have also been completed.
The archaeological component of the project has focused on visitor sites with in the park as well as revisiting all registered cultural sites on the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Register and Information System (ACHRIS) to update their status, while the anthropology component will focus on the entire park.
The next stage of the project is planned to start next month, when the anthropologist will begin to speak with community elders about cultural values within the park.
