Gunaikurnai people are the Traditional Owners of Gippsland. There are approximately 3,000 Gunaikurnai people, and their territory includes the coastal and inland areas to the southern slopes of the Victorian Alps. Gunaikurnai people are made up of five major clans.
Traditional Owner Settlement Act 2010
The purpose of this website is to provide information about the Traditional Owner Settlement Act 2010 joint management area of the Gunaikurnai people and information about the Gunaikurnai, their history, clans and special places.
The Gunaikurnai native title settlement package of 2010 included a consent determination and Indigenous Land Use Agreement. In addition there were a number of agreements under the Traditional Owner Settlement Act 2010 and Conservation Forests and Lands Act 1987 which includes a Recognition and Settlement Agreement (RSA), a Land Agreement and a Traditional Owner Land Management Agreement.
